Sammy Sosa biography
Born on November 12, 1968 Sammy Sosa (originally Samuel Sosa Peralta) was raised in a poor family in the small Dominican town of San Pedro de Macoris. Sammy’s childhood was rather hard. The boy has lost his father at the age of seven. Instead of a house the family resided in an abandoned hospital. Little Sammy sold fruit on the street and cleaned shoes to make at least some money as he had mother and six brothers and sisters.

He made his first steps in baseball at the age of fourteen. However, having no bat he used a branch instead, milk carton served as a baseball glove and a rolled sock made for a ball. His talent was revealed quickly after that. At the age of fifteen Sammy was disallowed to play for the Philadelphia Philles as he was too young. However, in 1989 he already played against the New York Yankees. Later that year the Chicago White Sox scouted him and his career started making stunning progress. In 1997 the Cubs signed a $42.5 million contract with him.
Everything was going rather smoothly until 2003 when Sammy Sosa was suspected in cheating. In fact, he was using a corked bat. He claimed he was doing that just for practice. However, he got a suspension for seven games. Furthermore, Major League Baseball started an investigation with x-raying all the bats used by Sammy. But there was no evidence for systematic cheating. Next year ill-starred Sammy injured his back after sneezing. After that he suffered chronic back spasms.
However, lately Sammy Sosa became the Internet sensation not because of his career achievements or professional injuries. Recent images showing his unusually pale skin made a stir in the net. Media accused him of bleaching his skin. Even more, there were comparisons to Michael Jackson… Sosa admitted using some European bleaching cream to “soften his skin.”
